Pauls Prayer for People of Colosse. Colo 1:9-12
Colosians 1:9-12
Scripture :
9For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. 10And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully 12giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you[d] to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.
Broad outline:
a) Being filled with the knowledge of God's will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.
b) Walking in pleasing life.
c) Growing in His knowledge.
Pauls prayer - in his prayers he wants to address 3 imporatnt aspects in a Christian life
1) Be filled
Being filled with the knowledge of God's will full of wisdom and understanding
Experiences in connection wih holy spirit 1- In- filing of holy spirit 2- baptism of holy spirit. Difference being baptising of holy spirit is and in- filing of holy spirit being baptism of holy spirit is a one time experience for a believer .
Gods will- god has plan for every individuals and that is also the perfect will of god for each individuals. It is best for a person to remain in the center ofgods plan. A person would be able to exepriance peace in his heart and kmow it when he is doing things as per his perfect will. Paul in histeachings rom 12:1-3 says to present yoirseleves as living sacrifices by renewing your mind so that you remain and know the Gods perfect will for a person. God uses different sources to speak to the person of what is the His will for a person. It could be word,prophets,pastors,dreams etc.
Permissive will - At times god might show his permisive will toward a person eg Balaam and donkeys case. It is mainly taking forced permission. It migh to persons who would like to see their own desires come to pass. It may nob he the best way, as it might have it's own set of problems connected to it.
Types of knowledge
Knowledge - what a person might obtain from the world and all the sources like studies, books, hearingthe testimonies and experiences
Wisdom - what one might get by receiving from God
Understanding - it the combination of knowledge an wisdom
2) Walking
live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work
In Gal 5:11 Paul speaks of being lead by the spirit. When a person is drunk. alcohol starts to control the mind and following which the person is subjected to its influence and all his deeds reflect the affect of alcohol on the person.
Paul is speaking of the person who 's mind is controlled by spirit and which translates in to all action of the person to be influenced by the spirit.
How to walk in spirit?
a) in love
b) In light Ehp 5:8 and not in darkness mentioned in Ehp 5:3-5
c) In obedience to the Holy Spirit
d) grieve not the Holy spirit Eph 4:30
e) Yield to the holy spirit - Attitude of repentance.
3) Growing in the knowledge of God.

Growth in christian life is most important thing for a christian to sustain in the challenges of life.
Rom 12:1-3 speaks of the your being renewed by the word.
Being able to grow in christian life and knowledge of God also means you equip yourself to be able to discern right teachings in the church and also able to take important and wise decisions in life.
Eq - faith like that of mustard seed. renewal every year. Our faith can only grow if we constantly receive from God for further growth. One step of faith will become a experience but you need to receive in accordance to the new tests and trials in life to take new steps in life.
